The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V.) was founded in 2007 in Germany and provides a certification system for sustainable buildings (13 different building types) and urban districts similar to other green building certification systems, but with unique features.  More
The DGNB System covers with about 50 criteria all of the key aspects of sustainability: environmental, economic, socio-cultural and functional aspects, technology, processes and site. It is the only one that gives as much importance to the economic aspect of sustainable buildings or districts as it does to the ecological criteria.
The assessments – for new construction and existing buildings - are always based on the entire life cycle of a building or district and offers a maximum amount of transparency and comparability. Of course the focus is always on the wellbeing of the user.
It is crucial that the DGNB does not assess individual measures but instead the overall performance of a building or urban district.
The DGNB aims to promote a uniform quality standard for buildings. Therefore the total score alone is not sufficient for a certificate. A certain basic level – the minimum performance index – must be reached in all the result-relevant quality sections to be able to obtain the relevant certificate.


With the planning concept of developing the heritage (a modern interpretation of Lingnan culture archetype) and the concept of implementing the historical aspects in the design (continuous complex dynamic shared mode), ISA and Beijing Co+E have developed the concept further after winning the bid of  Engineering Design of Guangzhou Vocational and Technical College Sharing Zone. Guangzhou Education City is located in the core area of the East New Town of northeastern Guangzhou, the goal is to construct an international best educational service area with the functions of vocational and technical education, training, research and development, career guidance, entrepreneurship incubator. The Sharing Zone Project is located in the middle of Education City with an area of 18.82 hectares.
The core design concept is "the epitome of Lingnan Town: stitching together city and nature, heritage and modernity": heritage is to continue the traditional spatial structure and hierarchical characteristics, combine the natural ecological environment temperament; implementation is to drive the dynamic service atmosphere of the sharing zone with complex public service cores. Based on the concept above, we have developed the space development strategy to find the relationship and balance between natural, traditional and functional requirements, to create a vibrant intercollegiate sharing zone, to create a creative and traditional Lingnan modern town, and to shape a traditional Lingnan style area, which meets the demands of modern life.
Ecological Green Corridor - the green system consists urban public green land and green land in the blocks. With the space among the functional areas, the original natural elements and the entrances and exits of the surrounding area as the basis, the ecological green system is created, forming a north-south green corridor through the land .
Ecological Wind System - the overall layout conforms to the dominant wind direction in summer, forming a series of multi-polar wind galleries. Through elevated ground floor, green plants and water bodies, the ventilation is further enhanced. At the same time, green land and water along the wind corridor could also cool the wind and remove the dust.
Ecological Water System - with the status quo water as the basis, the concept combines the water landscape and rainwater collection, purification and re-use, to create an organic  ecological water system.
In the DGNB certification process there are 44 criteria, again divided in sub criteria. Now we are collecting all neccesary local project data to edit each criteria and check the international adaptation for  this specific local situation and project.
