Renovation and Rehabilitation of an Historic Apartment
The apartment is located in an historic building dating from 1912, in the Stuttgart Heusteigviertel neighborhood. The renovation included:
• Replacement of windows, and electrical and partial heating systems
• Renovation and remodeling of bathrooms and kitchen
• Refurbishment of floors, walls and stucco ceilings
During the renovation, special emphasis was placed on maintaining the typical historic building character and flexible floor plan, and seamlessly combining this with modern design elements.
For example, all doors, hardware, light fixtures, stucco ceilings and oak floors were refurbished to a high quality. The windows were finished in wood.
The toilet and storage room were combined into a second bathroom complete with a bathtub. Built-in elements and the kitchen countertop made of oak (waxed) complete the kitchen and bathrooms, and offer necessary storage space. Wall light fixtures have also been provided to allow the high and small spaces to structurally subdivide, thereby concetrating the space.
In the hallway, circumferential 18 cm wide ceiling moulding of the existing gas lines was installed and laminated, and is indirectly illuminated with LEDs in a warm white.
